Walking amongst the empty corridors feels like a step back through time- particularly exploring the barracks, holding cells, and closely examining the cannons.

Not only is Key West a wonderful environment because of its local flora and fauna, but also because of the architecture. There are so many wonderful, quirky and colorful buildings with equally fascinating histories.

No matter where you go on Key West, or what you find to do there, you will be surrounded by unique and natural beauty – so be sure to save some time to slow down and take it all in!

Just next door to West Martello is beautiful Rest Beach, a white sandy strip of heaven with beautiful palms and a pier that takes you out into the water for some snorkeling.

Admission to the gardens is free, but donations can help ensure that this beautiful exhibit continues for future visitors.

Today the Aquarium hosts a wide range of fish and invertebrates. They have several educational programs, as well as touch tanks and informational displays throughout, and was one of the more enjoyable historic aquariums that I have visited.

Once you arrive to Key West, you don’t really need a car. Most everyone scoots around town on a moped, e-bike, regular bike, or just hoofing it.
